You may have been hearing a lot of iOS 14 and for most of us the first question is — will that support my iPhone or not? Last year, we knew that iOS 13 would support iPhones from the last four years only i.e iPhone 6S, iPhone SE (2016) and newer models . This year it is the same, as Apple isnt excluding iPhone 6S or iPhone SE. If you’re buying a new iPhone in the fall, it’ll come with the new iOS 14 installed.

DEVICES THAT WILL SUPPORT IOS 14, IPADOS 14

iOS 14, iPadOS 14 developer betas:

For any tech enthusiastic, this whirlwind of information is very exciting. So, Apple gave developers the ability to download beta software for the iPhone and iPad almost immediately. It is important to remind ourself that this is an early preview and it is not expected to be free from bugs. There may be random restart and crashes, while some apps may not be working as expected. It is because this is all the process of getting the OS ready. So don’t install iOS 14 or iPadOS 14 on your primary phone or tablet. Wait until the first public beta or till the official release, as that will give a more stable experience. But if you are here to get your hand dirty, try it in your spare device if you have one.

Going back to iOS 13 is possible, but…

It will require you to factory reset your iPhone or iPad and either restore it from the last backup you created when it was running iOS 13, or start fresh.

How to install iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 today

If you are planning to download the iOS 14 before the official release, you’ll need a paid Apple developer account to gain access. A paid account costs $99 a year, giving you access to publishing apps in the App Store along with all beta releases throughout the year. To be eligible you need to sign up with a valid Apple ID.

For those who already have a paid developer account, visit the Developer website.

Under Downloads, you will see the iOS and iPadOS 14 beta images that you need to manually install in your phone. Go to Settings > General > Profile, then select the Profile Downloaded and click the profile selected. Now scroll down to software update, and download iOS 14. Once the update is finished restart the phone and you should find it running the new operating system.
